What is a Tongue-Tie? - Cleveland, OH
Knowing & Understanding the Problem
What is a tongue-tie? Cleveland, OH lip and tongue-tie specialist, Dr. Csok, can help to answer this questions and other during a consultation visit. Generally speaking, a tongue-tie is a common condition that develops as a result of the tethered oral tissue not shrinking while in utero. As a result, a child is born with a restricted band of tissue (frenulum) that connects from the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth. This causes problems with oral function, hindering a baby’s ability to nurse. In older patients, it can cause difficulties in speaking, eating, and even breathing. Some individuals also experience dental development issues such as a gap between their upper front two teeth and misalignment.
